Privacy Policy

Otto ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your personal information when you use the Otto puppy training platform. By using Otto, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information: Your name, email address, and password (hashed) when you register.
• Puppy profile: Your dog's name, breed, age, training goals, household type, and behavioral concerns.
• Training data: Daily training plans generated for your dog, session completion records, skill progress status, and feedback ratings.
• Coach conversations: Transcripts of your conversations with the Otto AI coach, including mood data and session summaries.
• Photos: Puppy photos you choose to upload. These are stored securely and used only to personalize your in-app experience.
• Payment information: Billing is handled by Stripe. We receive limited payment metadata (subscription status, plan tier, customer ID) but never store your raw card details.
• Usage analytics: Pages visited, features used, time spent, and interaction patterns — used to improve the product.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and referring URLs.
• Email engagement data: Email open timestamps and click data from newsletters and transactional emails we send you.

• Directly from you: When you create an account, complete onboarding, upload content, or contact support.
• Automatically: Via cookies, local storage, and server logs when you interact with the Service.
• From Stripe: When you subscribe, Stripe processes your payment and shares limited metadata with us to manage your subscription.

• To create and manage your account and deliver the Service.
• To generate personalized AI training plans and coaching responses tailored to your dog's profile and history.
• To send transactional emails (verification, receipts, account notices) and, where you have consented, marketing emails (newsletters, training tips).
• To track your dog's progress and provide skill-based recommendations over time.
• To improve Otto's product, fix bugs, and develop new features using aggregated, de-identified analytics.
• To prevent fraud, enforce our Terms of Service, and comply with legal obligations.

Otto uses large language model APIs to generate coaching responses and training plans. Specifically:

• Conversation data and dog profile information is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to generate coach responses. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.
• Some features may also use OpenAI APIs. OpenAI's privacy policy is available at openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.
• We do not train AI models on your personal data. Data sent to these APIs is used solely to generate responses in the moment and is subject to each provider's data handling policies.

Conversations with the Otto coach are stored persistently to enable the AI to remember context across sessions (e.g., your dog's progress, previous issues discussed, ongoing training plans). This memory is:

• Stored encrypted at rest in our database.
• Used exclusively to provide continuity in your coaching experience.
• Deleted in full when you delete your account — see Section 11 (Data Retention).

You can review coach conversation history within the app. You can permanently delete all your data, including coach memory, by deleting your account from Settings → Account → Delete Account.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the following categories of service providers who help us operate the Service:

• Anthropic — AI language model API (coach responses and plan generation)
• OpenAI — AI language model API (select features)
• Stripe — Payment processing and subscription management
• Our email service provider — Transactional and newsletter delivery
• Our hosting and infrastructure provider — Cloud storage and compute

All processors are bound by data processing agreements that restrict how they may use your data. We may also disclose data as required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and the safety of our users.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data — including your dog profile, training plans, coach transcripts, photos, and coach memory — within 30 days of your deletion request. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely. Payment records may be retained as required by tax and financial regulations.

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Correction: Update inaccurate or incomplete information via Settings.
• Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data via Settings → Account → Delete Account.
• Export: Request a data export by emailing support@trainwithotto.com.
• Opt-out of marketing emails: Manage email preferences in Settings → Emails, or click the unsubscribe link in any email.

We use the following types of cookies and local storage:

• Essential cookies: Required for authentication and session management. The Service cannot function without them.
• Analytics: We use anonymized analytics to understand how users interact with the product and improve features.
• Email tracking pixels: We embed tracking pixels in some emails to measure open rates. You can disable image loading in your email client to prevent this.

We do not use third-party advertising cookies or sell data to ad networks.

Otto is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at support@trainwithotto.com.

Otto is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer. We rely on standard contractual clauses and other appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law.

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit (TLS), access controls, and regular security reviews. However, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law — typically within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, where technically feasible. Notifications will be sent to the email address on file for your account.

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
